Short-Range Ballistic Missile Prithvi II Successfully Test-Fired Off Odisha Coast

Bhubaneswar: Short-range ballistic missile Prithvi-II was successfully test-fired off the coast of Odisha on Wednesday evening.
According to Defence Ministry release, the training launch of the surface-to-surface missile was carried out from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Balasore district. The missile, which is capable of striking targets with a very high degree of precision, successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile, it added.
The missile was randomly picked  from the production stock and the entire launch activity was carried out by the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of the Army and monitored by the scientists of the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of a training exercise.
An indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile, Prithvi II has a strike range of 350 km and can carry 500 kg to 1,000 kg of warheads. It uses an advanced inertial guidance system with a manoeuvring trajectory to hit its target.
Powered by liquid propulsion twin engines, the state-of-the-art missile hits its target through an advanced inertial guidance system with a manoeuvring trajectory.
The nine-metre tall, single-stage Prithvi is the first missile to be developed by the DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP). It was added to the arsenal of the Indian defence forces in 2003.
