Nanded: In a show of resilience and grit, a young woman, from Nanded in Maharashtra, appeared for her Class-XI board exams on Wednesday, accompanied by her 10-day-old child.

Shital Chandrakant Chitte (21) appeared for her Political Science paper at a special mother-friendly facility at the exam centre.

It has now come to light that this was not the first time that Shital appeared for an exam with her child. On February 10, barely a couple of days after giving birth, she sat for her English paper. On that occasion, she was accompanied by her sister, who took care of the baby.

With the aim to support her in this difficult task, the authorities of the exam centre at People’s College created a dedicated ‘Matrusneh Kaksha’ (mother-friendly room). Authorities also brought in a cradle for the baby which allowed Shital to write her exam while the baby rested in the cradle.

Shital got married two years ago, but wanted to continue with her studies. Her family supported her decision. However, there was nobody at home to care for the child as her husband leaves for work, as reported by timesnow.in.

Finally, Shital took the bold decision to take the baby along with her to the exam centre. After all, the board exam could not be missed if she was to go in for a career.

Madhav Salgar, the education officer of Nanded, appreciated the college’s move to form a separate facility for the student during the exam.

“Henceforth, we, on behalf of the administration, will make arrangements at exam centres for such students to motivate them,” he said.

Maharashtra Board’s Latur divisional president Sudhakar Telang claimed this is the first such initiative in the state.
