Bhubaneswar: The 217th meeting of the Unit Approval Committee (UAC) has approved the proposal of M/s SiCSem Private Limited to establish a semiconductor manufacturing unit near Bhubaneswar in Odisha.
The unit is proposed to be set up at IDCO Infovalley-II in Arisol Mouza of Jatani Tahasil in Khordha district of Odisha under the jurisdiction of Falta Special Economic Zone (FSEZ), an official statement said on Tuesday.
The approval marks another significant addition to Odisha’s growing semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and underscores the role of FSEZ in facilitating high-technology, export-oriented investments.
Spread over 21.889 acres, the proposed unit will manufacture Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor devices, including SiC Diodes and SiC MOSFETs. The project involves an investment of Rs. 3,406.25 crore and is expected to generate employment for approximately 1,270 persons.
The unit will have a proposed annual production capacity of 4.8 million SiC Diodes and 91.2 million SiC MOSFETs. With a focus on advanced semiconductor manufacturing, the project is expected to strengthen India’s domestic capabilities in a critical high-technology sector while contributing to the country’s export-oriented manufacturing base.
The project is projected to generate an export turnover of Rs 7,043 crore over the next five years and achieve Net Foreign Exchange (NFE) earnings of approximately Rs 4,523 crore during the period. The approval further demonstrates the potential of the Special Economic Zone framework to attract capital-intensive, technology-driven projects with significant employment and export potential.
The approval of the SiCSem unit adds momentum to the development of Odisha as an emerging destination for semiconductor and advanced technology manufacturing, while reinforcing the contribution of Falta SEZ in facilitating investments and promoting export-oriented industrial development.
