Mumbai: A video showing Sidhu Moosewala’s 2.5-year-old brother, Sukhdeep Singh Sidhu, making gun gestures at a concert in Toronto has prompted a child rights complaint in Punjab.
Lawyers for Human Rights International (LFHRI) approached the Mansa district administration and the District Child Protection Unit on October 17, seeking an inquiry into the incident and measures to safeguard the toddler’s welfare.
According to the complaint, Sukhdeep took the stage during the October 9 show at Scotiabank Arena, part of the Signed to God World Tour, a hologram concert honouring the late Punjabi singer. His parents, Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur, were also present.
During the appearance, the toddler was seen making a pistol-like gesture with his hand while imitating gunfire by saying “tha tha tha”.
He also performed the “thaapi”, or thigh-slapping gesture, associated with Moosewala.
The moment drew applause from the audience, while videos of the child’s actions subsequently circulated on social media.
LFHRI has also cited another video that allegedly shows adults prompting or teaching the toddler to make the pistol-like gesture.
The organisation has urged authorities to examine the circumstances surrounding the videos and investigate whether adults encouraged the child to imitate firearm gestures.
It has also called for safeguards to prevent such behaviour from being encouraged at future concerts or public appearances.
LFHRI said its complaint was not intended to target the family or undermine Moosewala’s legacy, but was focused on the toddler’s safety and well-being.
It raised concerns about the potential impact of encouraging firearm-related gestures in a child as young as two-and-a-half years old.
Moosewala was killed in a targeted shooting in May 2022.
The tour, which features a hologram performance of the singer, continued with a Vancouver show on October 15, with further performances scheduled in Calgary, New York, Houston and Oakland through early November 2026.
Citing the possibility of the toddler appearing at upcoming events, LFHRI has sought urgent intervention from the authorities in Mansa, where the singer’s family is based.
No response from the family or the district administration was mentioned in the material provided.
