Mumbai: ‘Sikandar’ actress Rashmika Mandanna recently shared that she is heartbroken seeing the plight of protesting students at the Hyderabad Central University (HCU).
Sharing a post highlighting the situation at HCU, the actress wrote, “I just saw this.. Heartbroken. I am sorry but this is not right.. it’s not ok!” along with a broken heart emoji.
For the unversed, students of HCU are protesting the Telangana government’s decision to auction 400 acres of forest land in Kancha Gachibowli to set up an IT park.
Demanding removal of police personnel and the earth-moving machinery from the campus, the students launched an indefinite class boycott.
Akash Kumar, vice-president of the University of Hyderabad Students’ Union (UoHSU), told Hindustan Times, “Police officials are not letting us go outside the gate of the campus to protest against the ongoing deforestation by TGIIC. Kancha Gachibowli is home to hundreds of flora and fauna species. We are demanding an immediate halt to TGIIC works and the removal of police from campus. We have launched an indefinite class boycott strike today and we will continue till deforestation stops.”
Despite the protests, bulldozers started clearing the land, and some students were also arrested while demonstrating against the government’s decision.
