Ambala: Six people were killed and 13 others rescued after a three-storey building under construction collapsed in Haryana’s Ambala district on Sunday, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation.
The structure caved in at around 3 pm in Dhulkot village, burying several workers beneath the rubble. Teams from the police and district administration rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts with support from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire services and ambulance personnel.
Ambala Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat confirmed the fatalities and said 13 people had been brought out alive from the debris.
“Our immediate priority right now is the rescue work. If any negligence is found in this matter, legal action will be taken,” Shekhawat said.
Authorities initially suspected that between 15 and 20 people could be trapped beneath the collapsed structure. However, officials said the precise number of workers present at the site was not immediately available, as reported by The Pioneer.
The sub-divisional magistrate said 12 people, including those who died, had been identified during the initial stages of the operation.
Civil Hospital Medical Officer Dr Rohit said the hospital received information about the collapse at around 4 pm. “Initially, 13 patients were brought to the hospital, out of which four were declared brought dead. Two of them later died. The remaining patients had injuries that were not severe, and necessary investigations were conducted. Their treatment is currently underway,” he said.
