Rourkela: A small private aircraft reportedly crashed in Katibandha Kansar area of Rourkela in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Saturday, causing injuries to six persons.
As per preliminary information, the nine-seater plane from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela reportedly met with the accident. The India One Airlines aircraft attempted an emergency landing and crashed-landed in a farmland near Katibandha Kansar at around 1.30 pm.
The single-engine plane with four passengers and two pilots on board reportedly developed a technical snag after flying for about four to five kilometres, forcing the pilot to crash-land the aircraft.
Official sources said the plane, flying from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela, had departed at 12.27 pm. Eight nautical miles short of reaching Rourkela, the aircraft force landed at a place near Jalda. Pilots have ensured the landing due to which lives have been saved.
Soon after the mishap, rescue teams rushed to the spot, and the injured were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment. Three fire service teams engaged in the rescue operation worked to secure the crash site and assist passengers.
Currently, 3 passengers are being treated at J.P. Hospital and two Pilots and anohter passenger are admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH).
ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar said the Rourkela Superintendent of Police, along with police teams and fire services personnel, rushed to the spot immediately. As aviation fuel was leaking from the aircraft, the area has been cordoned off as a precautionary measure, and entry has been restricted to prevent any untoward incident, he said.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over the mishap and said best available medical treatment would be provided to those injured in the incident.
An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the crash. Police officials also reached the site to initiate preliminary probe. .
An official statement said that all six injured are now in JP Hospital, at Rourkela. The district Collector and SP are closely monitoring the situation and extending the necessary support at Rourkela. The Principal Secretary, Commerce &Transport has been monitoring the situation and coordinating the officials concerned from the Government of India / Odisha.
A control room has been established and made operational at Directorate of Civil Aviation (Landline: 0674-2596128; Mobile: 9861096371 ). DGCA teams from Bhubaneswar/ Kolkata are expected to reach Rourkela soon. AAIB is expected to reach by tomorrow for detailed investigation. 2 Officials from Directorate of Civil Aviation have been dispatched to Rourkela for co-ordination with all the stakeholders, it added.
