Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital has indeed become a Smart City. Now you can actually stop by on the road and charge your phone, make a phone call in case you don’t have a phone or even have access to wifi. All of this at a single digital kiosk.
The smart kiosk has been developed by five engineering students and is called Human Interactive Interface Systems (HII) or HII Bhubaneswar. It is a perfect combination of a smart digital kiosk and a smart billboard and has a 55 inches display screen.
It looks almost like the conventional telephone booth but of course is much more than that and has multiple features. As of now, only people living near or passing by Pal Heights at Jaydev Vihar can access it because that is where it has been installed.
The people friendly device can be installed at public places like malls, parks, institute campuses, railway stations, bus stops, tourist hubs and hospitals.
“We wanted to develop something to help the people. On approaching the authorities, we got permission to install a kiosk near Pal Heights,” said Chitta Ranjan Behera, co-founder of Nexyite, the company which set up the kiosk.
They are planning to install nine more kiosks. The 25-year-old entrepreneur is collaborating with four of his friends, Chiranjivi Nayak, Bishal Bebek Kabiraj, Ganesh Chandra Muni and Dibya Sidhanta for the project.
The 55 inch display screen shows advertisements and announcements in the form of texts, pictures and videos with real time modifications. “The interactive tablet at the kiosk has calling and internet browsing facilities with pre-installed applications,” he added.
Apart from this, the emergency phone numbers of the nearest police stations and hospitals are also available on the tablet.
