New Delhi: Hours after the X account of the rapidly growing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) was withheld in India, a new account titled ‘Cockroach is back’ has surfaced.

Within an hour of its return to X, the Cockroach party shared two posts mocking its critics.

“You thought you can get rid of us? Lol,” read one post.

In another post, screenshots were shared comparing the follower counts of BJP’s Instagram handle and CJP’s original account, with the caption, “The reason why they blocked us.”

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke took to his personal X handle to share an image showing that the original account had been withheld in India, adding that the action was expected.

“As expected Cockroach Janta Party’s account has been withheld in India,” he wrote.

Dipke opened the original Cockroach Janta Party account on social media platform X on May 16.

In next to no time, the online group gained immense popularity. Within days, CJP crossed 10 million followers on Instagram, overtaking the BJP’s official account which has around 8.7 million followers. The Congress has a larger number of followers – around 13.3 million.

Dipke also claimed that “attempts are being made to hack Instagram.”

The CJP account was opened describing itself as “a political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth,” with the slogan – ‘Secular, Socialist, Democratic, Lazy’.

It’s very name looks to be a satirical response to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant’s recent observations during a hearing last week.

The CJI referred to some unemployed young people and online activists as “cockroaches” and “parasites”, triggering outrage online.

CJI Kant clarified later that he was misquoted by the media.

The CJP’s short stint has blended humour, memes and political messaging – a hit recipe to attract massive online engagement within days of its launch.

Who is Abhijeet Dipke?

The 30-year-old Dipke is a Boston University graduate and former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) social media campaign worker.

Explaining the name of the account and its popularity, Dipke said: “I think the remarks were more triggering because they came from the Chief Justice of India, who is the custodian of the Constitution, which grants us freedom of expression.”

Prominent personalities, including activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan, social activist Anjali Bhardwaj and Trinamool Congress MPs Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad have been attracted by Dipke’s social media movement.

Both Moitra and Azad said jokingly that they were willing to “join” the outfit.
