Bhubaneswar: In a step forward for Bhubaneswar Metro project, soil testing has been started at different places in the Odisha capital.
According to sources, the soil testing was started from last Sunday. It is expected to continue for next three months at different places on the route of Bhubaneswar Metro from Airport Square to Trishulia Square.
The soil testing will be done in 100 metre gap along the entire route. Currently, the work going on at Forest Park and Vani Vihar to collect the samples of soil at Biju Patnaik Park in Forest Park and Vani Vihar.
“Soil is being dug up to 40 metre to collect the samples. At present, two teams are engaged with each comprising 6 people in Forest Park. The sample collected from the place will be sent to the laboratory for the binding test of the soil,” said the sources.
After the soil test, the design and construction of the metro line will be decided. As many as 20 elevated stations along the route will be constructed as per the project plan, they added.
The Bhubaneswar Metro, managed by the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) in collaboration with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), will feature a around 26 km elevated line connecting Trisulia Square with Biju Patnaik International Airport. The state government approved the project at an estimated budget of Rs 5926.38 crore earlier.
