Kolkata: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly is stable after undergoing angioplasty on Thursday, when two more stents were implanted to clear his clogged coronary arteries.
Confirming the news, hospital officials said that the 48-year-old Ganguly’s condition is being monitored by renowned cardiologist Devi Shetty – who flew in to Kolkata earlier in the day — and Aftab Khan.
“Earlier today after several medical tests were done, after which it was decided to implant two more stents to clear Ganguly’s coronary arteries,” a hospital spokesperson said.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee visited the former Team India skipper at Apollo Hospital.
Speaking to mediapersons before leaving the hospital, Mamata said that she had spoken with Sourav. “He is stable and will be fit soon,” said the chief minister.
Earlier this month, Sourav was hospitalised after feeling discomfort in his chest.
Three blockages were detected in his arteries. A stent was implanted in the artery with 90 per cent blockage and he was discharged on January 7. Dr Shetty had visited Kolkata then also to see Sourav.
