South Turkey Hit By Another Massive Earthquake

Istanbul: The 7.8 magnitude earthquake in southeast Turkey was followed by another strong temblor, which was felt in several provinces in the region and levelled a number of buildings, on Monday.

Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management agency, AFAD, said the quake, measuring 7.6 on the Ritcher scale, occurred at a depth of 7 km, AFAD with the epicentre at Elbistan region of Kahramanmaras province.

According to UAE’s Met Department, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck south of Turkey at 2.24 pm (UAE time).

Fresh tremors were also felt in Damascus, Latakia and other Syrian provinces, according to Syria’s SANA news agency.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake had hit the same region early Monday, killing over 1,200 people and injuring thousands others in Turkey and Syria. The death toll is expected to rise as hundreds are still believed to be trapped under rubble. Rescue operations are on.
