Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is most likely to hit Odisha coast on June 10.
Talking to the media on Friday, Director, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu said with the southwest monsoon hitting the Andaman and Nicobar islands on Friday, there has been heavy rainfall there since morning.
“As per the IMD prediction, the monsoon would advance towards the north and most likely hit the Kerala coast in the next 48 hours. If the condition favours, it would hit the Odisha coast on June 10,” he pointed out. He, however, said the probable date for the arrival of monsoon in Odisha coast can be said after it hits the Kerala coast and its subsequent advance which depends on the wind speed.
Sahu also said there is an indication of an increase in the rainfall in Odisha from June 3 onwards.
The IMD has predicted normal rainfall in the country (97%) this year.
