Southwest Monsoon May Hit Odisha In 2-3 Days; Check IMD Forecast

Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in Odisha in the next two to three days, ahead of its usual date of June 12, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Initial ingress is projected to occur in the southern regions of Odisha before extending across the state.

The weather agency said that current atmospheric conditions are conducive for the arrival of the monsoon, which typically makes its entrance into Odisha during the second week of June.

Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Karnataka, some parts of south Maharashtra, some more parts Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh, some parts of south Chhattisgarh and south Odisha, some more parts of west central and northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 2-3 days.

“Historically, the southwest monsoon makes its way into Odisha around June 12 or 13. We anticipate its arrival in southern Odisha within the next three days. As of now, conditions remain favourable,” said a senior IMD scientist.

This year, the southwest monsoon advanced notably early, making landfall in the Andamans and Kerala ahead of schedule. Typically, it arrives over Kerala by June 1, proceeding to traverse northeast India in subsequent days.

Meanwhile, hot and humid conditions prevailed in most parts of the state despite sporadic rainfall.
