Special Committee To Visit AP, Bihar For Setting Up Of Vidhan Parishad
Bhubaneswar: The special committee constituted by Odisha government to study the functioning of the Legislative Councils in other states will visit Andhra Pradesh and Bihar for setting up of a Vidhan Parishad.
A proposal in this regard has been approved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday.
“The committee will study functioning of the Legislative Councils of the two neighbouring states for setting up of a Vidhan Parishad in Odisha”, said transport minister Nrusingha Sahu. Following the visit, the committee will submit its report.
The committee had visited Maharashtra and Karnataka in 2015 to learn about the way of formation and functioning of the Legislative Councils. However, the reports have not yet been finalised, the minister added.
On the other hand, the BJP has termed the exercise as a drama to hoodwink the people of Odisha ahead of the 2019 elections.
The first meeting of the committee on Vidhan Parishad was convened on January 19, 2015.
