Nabarangpur: A girl working in a dance troupe was critically injured after being stabbed by a jilted lover in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place on Monday night at a house in Umerkote where five girls hailing from Puri have been staying on rent for performing in different cultural events.
The accused youth, identified as Rohit Singh from Bihar, barged into the house after scaling the wall and allegedly stabbed the girl, identified as Lipsa Nayak, with a knife. The youth fled the scene after attacking the girl and leaving her grievously injured.
Hearing the scream, the other girls in the house rescued her and took her to the community health centre (CHC). She was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) at Nabarangpur for treatment.
The incident was reported to have been the outcome of a failed love affair. Rohit and Lipsa were reportedly in a relationship for a long time, but something had gone wrong recently.
On being informed, a team of police personnel rushed to the site and launched an investigation into the incident. Efforts are on to trace the youth who is reported to be missing. The statement of the injured girl has been recorded. Further details are awaited.
