New Delhi: Bomb threats were received via e-mail by two prominent educational institutions in New Delhi on Tuesday, prompting Bomb Detection And Disposal Squads of the Delhi Police to carry out extensive searches of the premises.
The two institutions targeted on Tuesday were St Stephen’s College in the University Enclave and St Thomas School at Dwarka. Searches carried out at both locations did not lead to the recovery of any suspicious item, the police said.
This is for the second day running that educational institutions in the national capital received bomb threats. On Monday, two CRPF Schools and the Navy School at Chanakyapuri received similar threats.
“It seems that the threats were sent by the same person/persons. Efforts are being made to trace back the e-mails. This could be a mischief, but we are not taking chances. Security has been tightened near all educational institutions. We have also activated our intelligence networks and technical surveillance is in progress,” a senior Delhi Police official said.
Tuesday’s search operations included bomb disposal squads, dog squads and teams from the Delhi Fire Brigade. Officials from the intelligence departments have also visited the two addresses to check for clues.
“Students and staff were evacuated from both locations before the search operations. We are also planning to meet the managements of schools and colleges to try and work out a strategy for better security and setting up of equipment such as door frame metal detectors and surveillance cameras,” the police official said.
A similar threat was received by a school and a Delhi University college in February this year. The police are checking if there is a connection.
