Student Traffic Volunteer Programme To Be Revived In Bhubaneswar From Monday

Bhubaneswar: The Student Traffic Volunteer (STV) programme, which was discontinued for two years due to COVID pandemic, will be revived in the Capital City from Monday.

Under the programme, students above 18 years of age will assist the traffic personnel at different inter-sections in the city after undergoing training. Around 50 students are undergoing 2-day training at the Traffic Police Headquarters in Bhubaneswar, said DCP Traffic of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack S Sushree.

During the training, the students will learn the traffic rules and regulations and signals used by the personnel to manage the vehicular movement as well as pedestrians. On the first day of the training, the first batch of students had on-field training at the AG Square on Saturday, said Sushree. After completion of training, each batch of students will be engaged at traffic posts near their houses for 16 days.

Besides helping the Traffic Police department which is facing manpower shortage, the scheme will promote awareness about traffic rules among the young generation, she said. Moreover, the vehicle riders and commuters are more likely to pay attention to the rules pointed out by younger people, she added.
