Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience heatwave and hot and humid condition from May 8-13, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.
On May 7, thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar and Kalahandi districts. Light to moderate rain may also occur during this period at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar, Kalahandi ,Angul, Boudh and Dhenkanal.
Hot and humid condition may return to Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurdha, Cuttack and Jajpur districts on May 9.
Yellow warning for heatwave and hot and humid weather continues for the next 5 days during which the day temperature may rise by 2-4°C across the state. The IMD has predicted above normal heatwave days in the state in May.

The IMD has advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to heat and carry umbrella while stepping out of house. “Use ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), sugarcane juice, lemon water, buttermilk to re-hydrate the body,” it added.
