Chennai: A Sunni Muslim body in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly has issued fatwa against Tamil Nadu actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay stating that his previous actions are ‘examples shown against Islam.’
Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilly, national president of the All India Muslim Jamaat and Chief Mufti of Chashme Darul Ifta, has reportedly issued the fatwa against the actor.
The fatwa, issued in response to a question, also states that the actor-politician is anti-Muslim. According to reports, the fatwa declares that inviting “alcoholics and gamblers to Iftar” is illegal and sinful. Rizvi has reportedly accused Vijay of destroying the sanctity of Ramadan by inviting drunkards to an Iftar party. The fatwa also advises Muslims in Tamil Nadu not to trust or include such persons in their religious events.

“Vijay Thalapathy is using Muslim sentiments to make his way into politics from the film world when his history is full of anti-Muslim sentiment,” Maulana Razvi told ANI. “In his film ‘The Beast’, he has linked Muslims and the entire Muslim community with terrorism and militancy. In the film, Thalapathy tries to show Muslims as ‘monsters’ and ‘devils’. And now since he is entering politics and he wants votes, he is doing Muslim appeasement,” Razvi added.
According to Razvi, Sunni Muslims in Tamil Nadu had also filed a police complaint over the matter.
