Super Cup 2018: Bengaluru FC Outplays East Bengal 4-1 To Lift Inaugural Trophy

Bhubaneswar: Skipper Sunil Chettri scored a brace as Bengaluru FC came back from a goal down to register a 4-1 win over East Bengal to clinch the inaugural Hero Super Cup at Kalinga Stadium here on Friday.

While Chettri nicked two goals, Rahul Bheke and Nicolas Fedor (Miku) scored one each, outplaying the opponents.

In the 28th minute, East Bengal took the lead off the fourth corner as Kromah found the nets.

The equaliser came in the 39th minute when Rahul scored the first for Bengaluru FC. East Bengal had to play with 10 men when Samad Ali Mallick was shown red card for a rough tackle. Mallik’s meltdown proved costly for his team as Bengaluru FC got the lead in the 68th minute when Gurwinder Singh handled the ball, which was converted by Chettri.

The lead was doubled in the 71st minute, when Miku was set up by Dovale-Perez combo. Chettri netted another one with a header in the 90th minute as Bengaluru FC romped to a 4-1 win.

While Chhetri was declared the Hero of the Match, Venezuelan striker Miku was adjudged ‘Hero of the Tournament’ for his five goals.
