Bhubaneswar: After two more days of thunderstorm activity, heatwave and hot and humid weather conditions may return to Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
During this period, the day temperature is expected to rise by 2-4°C across the state.
The weather agency has issued yellow warnings for thunderstorms followed by hot and humid and heatwave conditions till May 10.
May 6
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam.
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapafa, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Sundargarh.
Light to moderate rain may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bargarh and Sundargarh.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Nabarangpur districts.
Light to moderate rain is also likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi.
Hot and humid weather conditions may prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati during the next 3 days (May 8-9-10).
There is also a warning for heatwave at one or two places in Sambalpur & Jharsuguda districts on May 9 and Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Balangir and Boudh on May 10.
Light to moderate rain may continue in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam on May 8, and Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam on May 9-10.
While there is no warning thereafter, light to moderate rain may continue in the afternoon/evening hours at some places in South and Western Odisha during the subsequent 2 days, it added.
According to the national weather forecaster, sweltering conditions may make a strong comeback in the later part of the month. It has predicted above normal heatwave days in the state in May.
