Bhubaneswar: Dense fog reduced visibility in Odisha’s Rourkela while moderate fog engulfed Koraput, Bhawanipatna and Phulbani on Sunday morning.

While Phulbani recorded 10°C followed by Koraput at 12.1°C, Bhawanipatna at 12.2°C and Rourekal at 12.4°C, G Udayagiri remained the coldest in the state at 8°C in the last 24 hours. The hill station in Kandhamal district had recorded 8.5°C the previous day. The mercury hovered around 16°C in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The state capital had recoded 15.4°C the previous day while the night temperature was 16.5°C in Cuttack.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast shallow to moderate fog at one or two places in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Koraput districts till 8.30 am on November 26.

Odisha may also receive light to moderate for three days from November 27 under the influence of the system over Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify further around November 25 and move northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coast during the subsequent 2 days as it would lead to moisture incursion.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapada districts on November 27, in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada on November 28 and Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada on November 29.

The rainfall activity will lead to an increase in the night temperature. “There will be no large change in the minimum temperature across the state during the next 2 days and thereafter rise by 2-4°C during the subsequent 3 days,” the national forecaster said.

According to SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) director Sarat Sahu said the intensity of the rains will be more in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Koraput districts between November 27 and 29.
