Talcher Fertilisers: Speed Up Work To Meet Deadline, Says Union Min
New Delhi: Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers DV Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday called for faster execution of the works for commission of the urea unit of Talcher Fertilisers Limited (TFL) by the deadline of Septmber 2023.
Stating that the COVID-19 situation has delayed the project, he said it can be compensated by faster execution in future. “When commissioned, TFL along with other four revival projects at Ramagundam, Gorakhpur, Barauni and Sindri will be able to realise the vision of the Prime Minister to achieve self-sufficiency in urea production,” he said at a review meeting of the project.
TFL is a joint venture company promoted by GAIL, CIL, RCF and FCIL. When completed, the TFL’s urea unit of 12.7 lakh tonne per annum capacity at Talcher will be a first of its kind in the country to employ coal gasification technology for production of urea. The estimated project cost is around Rs 13,270 crore.
Managing Director of TFL SN Yadav said the project faced various challenges due to COVID-19 pandemic. It has been delayed by about six months due to travel restrictions and shortage of labourers, he added.
