It was a tale of two overs for Akila Dananjaya, as the Sri Lankan leg-spinner experienced a rare high followed by a nightmarish low within a matter of minutes in the first T20 International against the West Indies at Antigua.
In his second over, Akila dismissed Evin Lewis (28), Chris Gayle (0) and Nicholas Pooran (0) with his second, third and fourth balls to become only the fourth Lankan bowler to claim a T20I hat-trick.
But his euphoria was shortlived as Kieron Pollard came in and smashed Akila for six sixes in his very next over.
Pollard thus followed in Yuvraj Singh’s footsteps in clobbering sixes off every ball in an over in a T20 International. Left-handed Yuvraj had heaped the misery on England’s Stuart Broad in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007.
For the record, West Indies won the match by four wickets with 41 balls to spare.
