Tamil Nadu MP Dies Of Cardiac Arrest After Suspected Suicide Bid
Coimbatore: Erode MP and senior MDMK leader A Ganeshamurthi, who allegedly attempted suicide a few days ago by consuming pesticide, died of cardiac arrest early on Thursday, news agency ANI reported.
A police officer confirmed to NDTV that the 76-year-old leader died at a private hospital in Coimbatore around 5 am.
According to reports, Ganeshamoorthy, who was elected on a DMK ticket in the 2019 from Erode, was admitted to a private hospital in Erode after he developed uneasiness and vomited on March 24. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore and put on ECHO support.
Sources close to him said the MP was reportedly suffering from severe depression over a complex personal issue and it surfaced again after he was denied a ticket to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Ganeshamurthi’s body was taken to a government hospital in Perundurai, Erode, for postmortem. His mortal remains will be buried in Kumaravalasu village, 15 km from Erode, PTI reported, quoting MDMK sources.
