A police officer confirmed to NDTV that the 76-year-old leader died at a private hospital in Coimbatore around 5 am.

According to reports, Ganeshamoorthy, who was elected on a DMK ticket in the 2019 from Erode, was admitted to a private hospital in Erode after he developed uneasiness and vomited on March 24. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore and put on ECHO support.

Sources close to him said the MP was reportedly suffering from severe depression over a complex personal issue and it surfaced again after he was denied a ticket to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Ganeshamurthi’s body was taken to a government hospital in Perundurai, Erode, for postmortem. His mortal remains will be buried in Kumaravalasu village, 15 km from Erode, PTI reported, quoting MDMK sources.
