Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday congratulated Odisha gymnast Tapan Mohanty for clinching the All-Around title in the Senior Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) category at the ongoing Junior and Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championship 2026–27.
Mohanty delivered a standout performance on Day 2 of the event, held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, scoring 73.433 points to emerge as champion. Yogeshwar Singh of Haryana took silver with 72.667 points, while Shreyas Choudhari (noted in some reports as Shayan Sharma) secured bronze with 71.467 points, making for a tightly contested podium.
The victory added to Odisha’s success, as the state team also qualified for the Senior MAG Team Championship Final.
“His remarkable performance has taken the Odisha team to the final of the ‘Senior MAG Team Championship’. Wishing Tapan a bright future and extending my best wishes to the Odisha team for the final match,” CM Majhi wrote.

“His victory marks a significant achievement for the host state and underscores Odisha’s rising prominence in the sport,” a release from Odisha Gymnastics Association said, highlighting efforts to nurture talents locally through initiatives like the Odisha AM/NS India Gymnastics High Performance Centre.
Dignitaries present on the day included Gymnastics Federation of India president Sudhir Mital and secretary general of the Fencing Association of India Rajeev Mehta.
The championships, running from April 25 to May 3, 2026, at Kalinga Stadium, feature over 600 gymnasts from across India and serve as a key platform for both established stars and emerging talents.
