Tea Seller In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj Repairs Public Road At His Own Expense

Mayurbhanj: A tea seller has gone ahead and done what others with better means don’t have the guts to do. He repaired a damaged road with his own money at Udala under Kaptipada sub-division in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday.

Purnachandra Rout, a resident of Ward Number-10 has a tea stall at High School square. His whole family survives on the basis of his earnings from here. He earns a meagre amount but that does not stop him from reaching out to help others or to improve his surroundings.

There are frequent accidents on the damaged road in front of his shop. After several complaints to get it repaired did not elicit any response, Purnachandra decided to take the initiative himself.

“There used to be accidents here every other day due to the pits. I could no longer bear the sight of people getting injured. A biker was critically injured in a recent accident. That is when I could not stop myself. I collected the required material immediately and filled the pits, with the help of my elder brother Kalia,” said Purnachandra.

Roads at the Udala High school square come under the Works Department.

Needless to say, local people are all praise for Purnachandra’s efforts.

“We have faced a lot of problems on that road. I want to thank Purnachandra for repairing it with his money. It is the main road and as a rule, the government should repair this,” said Sibaram Soren, a local person.

But such gestures come naturally to Purnachandra. During the lockdown period, he took care of mentally ill persons living on the pavements.  He used to take care of their hygiene besides giving them food. He used to feel stray animals too.
