Teacher Flees After Girl Student Files Complaint Of Misconduct With Police In Odisha’s Sonepur

Sonepur: A schoolteacher has fled after a girl student’s father lodged a police complaint alleging sexual harassment against him in Odisha’s Subarnapur district.

According to sources, a girl student of Government Upper Primary School at Nimna under Ulunda block in the district had complained to a lady teacher that Banamali Parida, a male teacher, was misbehaving with her. The Class VII student alleged that Parida used to make indecent and sexual postures to her when she was alone.

Though the lady teacher reportedly apprised the headmistress of the school of the student’s complaint, no action was taken against Parida. Apparently encouraged by the lack of action, Parida’s misconduct aggravated.

Unable to bear his misbehaviour, the girl told her parents about the entire matter. Her father lodged a complaint at Ulunda police station on Saturday. He has complained that besides his daughter, other girls were also the victims of Parida’s misconduct.

The police have registered a case and started investigation. Before the police could take action, Parida fled the village. The police have launched a manhunt to trace him, the sources said.
