Malkangiri: Irate villagers of Katamateru village of Korukonda panchayat in Malkangiri district on Monday severely thrashed a schoolteacher for allegedly sexually abusing a minor girl.
They also kept the teacher tied to the main gate of the school for hours.
Talking to the media, the villagers alleged that assistant teacher of an Ashram school Ashwini Dehuri had regularly been abusing a Class VI student.
The teacher called the girl to his residence on August 23 on the pretext of checking her notebook and abused her. He also misbehaved with her near the pump house inside the school premises on Monday, they further said.
The villagers came to know about the incident after a video in which he is seen misbehaving with the girl went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, the District Welfare Officer has ordered a probe into the incident.
