Patna: The Raghopur Assembly constituency in Bihar is witnessing a close fight between Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and the Mahagathbandhan chief minister-face Tejashwi Yadav and Satish Kumar Yadav of the BJP.
Satish had inched ahead by nearly 3,000 votes during the tenth round of counting, after a brief bounce back by Tejashwi who led by a margin of 585 votes at one point of time.
This see-saw battle at what is considered an RJD stronghold is being closely watched at a time when the National Democratic alliance (NDA) is set to decimate the Mahagathbandhan or INDI Alliance in Bihar. If Tejashwi loses, it will be considered the last nail in the coffin for the RJD that has been humbled in these elections.
Raghopur is in the Hajipur Lok Sabha segment. This year’s main contest in Raghopur featured Tejashwi, Satish and Chanchal Kumar from the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP). Tejashwi’s brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, has also fielded Prem Kumar from his own Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD).
Tejashwi won the Raghopur seat in 2020 by defeating Satish by a comfortable margin of 38,174 votes. Tejashwi had polled 97,404 votes, securing a 48.74 percent vote share, while Satish received 59,230 votes (29.64 percent). The Lok Janshakti Party’s Rakesh Raushan finished third with 24,947 votes (12.48 percent).
Raghopur has long been a symbolic stronghold for the Yadav family, often seen as an indicator of Tejashwi’s political strength in Bihar politics.
