Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha are likely to encounter thunderstorm activity amid the prevailing sultry weather conditions during the next five days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warnings for thunderstorms, coupled with lightning and strong wind, and hot and humid conditions up to June 12.
The weather agency stated that the day temperature in the state is likely to rise by 2-3 degree Celsius during the next 3 days. There will be no large change in the mercury levels thereafter.
In its midday bulletin, the IMD issued a yellow warning for several districts up to the morning of June 8. Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts during the period.
At the same time, hot and humid weather conditions may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
On June 8-9, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada. Yellow warning was issued for these districts.
Similarly, hot and humid conditions may occur at some places of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.
On June 9-10, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput. Yellow warning was issued by the IMD.
Hot and humid weather conditions very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.
June 10-11, yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
June 11-12, yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
