Temperature Breaches 42 Degree Celsius In 7 Places Of Odisha; Balangir Hottest

Bhubaneswar: More areas in Odisha came under the grip of heat wave with as many as 22 places recording maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Tuesday compared to 17 places on Monday.

According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, the day temperature breached 42 degree Celsius in 7 places in the state.

Balangir was the hottest place in Odisha as the town sizzled under a temperature of 43.3 degree Celsius. It was followed by Sambalpur with 42.9, Jharsuguda 42.8, Sonepur 42.6, Bargarh42.4, Hirakud 42.1 and Baripada 42 degree.

The capital city Bhubaneswar, which was second hottest place with a temperature of 42 degree Celsius at 2.30 pm, witnessed the mercury shooting up to 42.6 degree subsequently. Cuttack city recorded 41 degree Celsius on the day.

The IMD has forecast that there will be no major change in maximum temperature (day temperature) at many places in Odisha during next 5 days. It is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more at few places in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Jharsuguda and Bargarh during the period.

Consequently, hot and discomfort weather very likely to prevail. People should take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm, it advised.

The national weather forecaster also issued a yellow warning and said thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely at one or two places in the districts of Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj and Balasore by 8.30 am on Wenesday.

Thunderstorm with lightning is also very likely at one or two places in Keonjhar, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri during the period, it added.
