New Delhi: Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik was on Wednesday sentenced to life imprisonment by a special NIA court.
Special NIA Judge Praveen Singh of Patiala House court pronounced the quantum of sentence after Malik was convicted on May 19.
The judge announced multiple sentences for the different charges Malik faced under sections of IPC and UAPA.
“Two life imprisonments have been given to Yasin Malik, besides 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in 10 offences and Rs 10 lakh penalty. All punishments will run concurrently,” Advocate Umesh Sharma told newspersons.
The chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front had pleaded guilty of all charges, including those under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, in a terror-funding and secessionist activities case in Kashmir valley.
Malik told the court on May 10 that he would not contest charges – under sections 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act) and 20 (being member of terrorist gang or organisation) of the UAPA and sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the IPC — levelled against him.
