Srinagar: A terrorist has been killed in an ongoing operation in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday morning. Security forces are continuing to exchange fire with at least one more terrorist at the location.
A security personnel has also received injuries, sources said. He has been evacuated to a hospital.
“A joint operation was launched at Krumbhoora village, in the Zachaldara Rajwar Handwara sector, after receiving information of the presence of 2-3 terrorists in the area. The area was cordoned off and a firefight started, resulting in the death of one terrorist. The encounter is continuing,” an official said.
According to him, a search and cordon operation was launched after receipt of the information. The holed up terrorists soon opened fire on the security forces, who retaliated, resulting in the death. The identity of the dead terrorist is yet to be ascertained. The security forces are using drones to keep a track on any movement at the encounter site.
The official said that this is the fifth such encounter in North Kashmir over the last seven days. Operations had earlier been launched at Bandipora and Sopore.
