New Delhi: World’s most popular electric carmaker Tesla is finally set to enter India — possibly as early as January 2021.
Pre-bookings for Model 3 will open and deliveries are expected in June 2021, a report in ET Auto says.
“According to sources privy to the matter, the world’s most valued automobile corporation by market cap has sealed plans to resume bookings next month and start delivery by the end of the first quarter of 2021-22,” said the report.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has tweeted a few times in the past stating his interest to launch in India, but has not been able to because of high import tariffs here.
In October, it was reported that Tesla is exploring the idea of opening an R&D centre and a battery manufacturing unit here.
To begin with, the most valuable automaker will be importing the car from China. It will also sell the cars online, and not via dealerships as it does in other countries.
The Model 3 is expected to be priced around Rs 55 lakh. It has a range of up to 500 km and can do 0-100 kmph in 3.1 seconds.
