Bangkok: Four members of a soccer team trapped in a cave for more than 2 weeks have been rescued by Thailand’s elite navy SEAL unit divers, local officials and a US official confirmed to CNN.
The Thai Navy SEAL command has also confirmed the same on their official Facebook page.
Players of the soccer team along with their coach were trapped following rise in water levels inside the underground caves. Rescue attempts till now had failed.
As reported in the Reuters, the rescued children are currently undergoing physical examination.
Locals have spotted ambulances and helicopters taking off near the cave.
The narrow flooded passageways of the caves had led to the death of a former Thai navy diver on Friday.
While an army commander stated that the rescue operation could take three to four more days depending on the weather conditions, the head of the rescue mission, Narongsak Osottanakorn, has told mediapersons, “Today is D-Day.”
