Kochi: ‘The Kerala Story 2’ has cleared the legal obstacle and is set to be released in theatres.
The film was dealt a setback on Thursday when a single-judge bench ruled said that ‘The Kerala Story 2’ cannot be released on its scheduled date of February 27.
However, a Division Bench comprising Justices SA Dharmadhikari and PV Balakrishnan lifted the interim stay on the film’s release.
After Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas temporarily halted the film’s release a day earlier, acting upon a petition filed against the film’s censor certificate, the producers were quick to file an appeal on the same day.
The Division Bench, acknowledging the urgency of the matter, convened a special sitting on Thursday evening itself.
The hearing lasted more than two hours, and the court delivered its decision at 4 pm on Friday, vacating the interim stay and clearing the way for the film’s release.
The producers are yet to announce the new release date of the film.
‘The Kerala Story 2’, directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, claims that young Hindu women are lured into interfaith marriages, then assaulted, stripped of their rights and forced to convert to Islam.
Once the trailer of the film was released, a major controversy erupted over its content.
