Paradip: The body of the third Russian national Milyakov Sergey (51), who was found dead on a ship on Tuesday, was brought to Paradip Port Hospital on Wednesday, almost 21 hours after the incident.
According to sources, his postmortem will be conducted at the hospital. Meanwhile, Marine Police initiated a probe after filing an unnatural death case.
At least 22 crew members of the ship have already been questioned in this connection, said sources.
From preliminary investigation, it was suspected that Sergey died due to a heart attack. “We came to know that he was one of the crew members of the cargo ship. The cause of his death will be known only after the postmortem. As per our preliminary investigation, he suddenly collapsed onboard the ship. He might have died of a heart attack,” TOI reported Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhilesvhar Singh as saying.
He said that police would videograph Sergey’s post-mortem, and preserve his visceral samples and body. SP Singh further added that his family would be contacted with the help of the Russian consulate general in Kolkata.
Notably, Sergey’s death was the third incident of a Russian national being found dead in Odisha within a fortnight. He was the Chief Engineer of the vessel, M B Aldnah, which was on its way to Mumbai from Chittagong Port in Bangladesh via Paradip.
Odisha Police drew flak for not preserving Russian lawmaker Antov Pavel’s viscera or videographing his autopsy. Pavel and his co-traveller Bydanov Vladimir were found dead in a hotel at Rayagada on December 22 and 24 respectively.
