Bhubaneswar: Hailing President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to the Odisha Assembly a historic moment, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday said for the first time in the state’s democratic history, a Head of State was addressing the House.
Highlighting Murmu’s journey from a humble background to the highest office, Majhi cited her struggles and achievements as an inspiration. This day will be inscribed in golden letters in the state’s democratic history, he said.
The Chief Minister hailed Murmu’s contributions to Mayurbhanj’s development and her role as a symbol of empowerment for women and tribal communities. “She has made unparalleled contribution to the development of her birthplace, Mayurbhanj. Today, by visiting his first workplace, she has given a message to society that no matter how big a person becomes, one should never forget the origin and first workplace,” he said.
Stressing that strict penance for service has taken her to the top, Majhi said, “It is no coincidence that you have struggled in such an environment and succeeded in politics and reached the highest position in the country. This is the result of your strict penance for public service and the blessings of God.”
The Chief Minister also outlined the state government’s focus on inclusive governance, citing initiatives for women, youth, and marginalised sections. He credited the President’s guidance and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” for the government’s efforts.
“We’ve broken the barrier between the government and the people, bringing us closer to the public. This effort has earned us the title of ‘People’s Government’,” he said.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the President’s speech would guide the Assembly and promote Odisha’s development, aligning with the vision of a prosperous Odisha by 2036 and a developed India by 2047.
