Bhubaneswar: Snehasis Das, who bagged 60th rank, is the state topper for Odisha in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET UG 2025), the results of which were declared on Saturday.
A student of DPS Kalinga, he achieved a remarkable 99.9972390 percentile in the fiercely competitive national exam.
Set to pursue MBBS at AIIMS, Snehasis aspires to become a neurosurgeon, a goal he’s nurtured since childhood. “Success in NEET demands consistency, not shortcuts,” he told the media, emphasising his routine of 6–7 hours of daily study alongside school and coaching.
He devoted 10 hours on holidays.
Snehasis said this year’s NEET UG was a psychological exam for medical aspirants. “Besides Physics, Chemistry and Biology, it was a test of how well we could control our nerves. I too had panicked on seeing the difficult paper. It took me 55 minutes to complete the Biology section, which I would easily get done with within 40 minutes,” he said.
He advocated mock tests, self-study, and a positive mindset, advising aspirants to prioritise regular practice over erratic long hours. “I owe a lot to my parents who avoided family functions during these two years to help me concentrate on my studies,” he said.
Unlike many peers, Snehasis maintained a balanced schedule, sleeping by 1 am and studying 6–7 hours daily. He spent around an hour or so on recreation.
His passion for neurology sparked early, fuelled by YouTube medical videos and his grandfather, an Ayurvedic doctor, whose discussions ignited his curiosity about medicine.
“Success for me is how I slogged when no one was watching. My hard work, dedication and determination helped me achieve this rank. It actually took a while for the result to sink in,” he added.
