Thousands Of Dead Fish Swept Ashore At Bahuda River Mouth In Odisha’s Ganjam
Berhampur: Thousands of dead fish were found lying at Bahuda river mouth in Sunapur beach of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday.
Panic gripped the locals when they spotted the large number of dead fish. They informed the Ganjam district administration officials, sources said.
Interestingly, all the dead fish weighing a few quintals spread over 5-km are of ‘Kabala’ species. Bahuda river merges with the Bay of Bengal at Sunapur and many fishermen depend upon the fish at the river mouth for their livelihood.
Thousands of dead fish were found floating near the Gopalpur port during 2016 and 2017. Marine experts were of the view that the presence of poisonous chemical substances leading to decrease in oxygen level in water could have caused the death of the fishes.
