Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm activity along with heavy rain and hail is likely to continue in Odisha till May 3, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
There is a probability of rain or thundershowers in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for seven days.
Orange warning has been sounded for six districts on April 29. Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50- 60 kmph and Hailstorm, heavy rainfall may occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapada districts.
The weather agency has warned of damage to horticulture and standing crops, loose/unsecured and vulnerable structures due to strong winds. People have been advised to move to safer places during the thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning. Farmers are also advised to use hail nets to protect vegetables and crops from hail
There is also a yellow warning for thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph, and heavy rainfall at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul and Dhenkanal during this period.
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri,Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur and Deogarh.
Yellow warning continues for 4 more days, following which the day temperature may rise by 2-4°C across the state during the subsequent 3 days.
