Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday forecast thunderstorm activity along with strong winds and heavy rainfall in seven districts of Odisha.
Thunderstorm/lightning along with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.
There is also a yellow warning for thunderstorm/ lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph for one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Balangir, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur. Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur and Boudh.
The weather agency has also warned of hot and humid weather conditions at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur on June 10-11.
Thunderstorm activity is likely to continue in the state till June 13. Thereafter, heavy rain may lash Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts on June 14; Nuapada and Nabarangpur, on June 15; and Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar on June 16.
This can be attributed to two cyclonic circulations over Bay of Bengal, which may intensify into a low-pressure area in the coming days. The cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north coastal Odisha & south Gangetic West Bengal, has now moved over north Odisha & neighbourhood. Similarly, there is another cyclonic circulation over Southeast & adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal over central parts of Bay of Bengal.
The IMD further stated that there will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 6-7 days.
