Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm coupled with lightning, gusty wind and rain is likely to hit at least 15 districts of Odisha on Tuesday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a nowcast warning.
In a message issued at 3.15 pm, the IMD sounded an orange warning for Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Sundargarh and Nuapada.
It said moderate thunderstorm with lightning, gusty surface wind with speed up to 40-50 kmph and rain may affect these districts within next three hours.
Similarly, a yellow warning was issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Gajapati and Ganjam districts. Light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning, gusty surface wind with speed up to 30-40 kmph and rain may affect these districts within next three hours, it said.
The weather agency has advised people to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places to protect from lightning strikes.
