Bargarh: With the byelection to Bijepur Assembly constituency in Bargarh district just 10 days away, the district police has taken elaborate security measures to maintain law and order.
A high-level review meeting in this connection was held at the office of the District Superintendent Police here on Tuesday.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, IG, Northern Range, Sushant Nath said a high level security related review meeting was held on the law and order situation in Bijepur constituency in presence of the Director (Intelligence) Sunil Roy, IG (Operations) RP Koche, IG, (Law and Order) Amitabh Thakur, IG, BSF AK Singh and IG, CRPF Kamal Kant Sharma, SOG Commandant B. Chandra Pradhan, Bargarh SP Jai Narayan Pankaj, and Balangir SP K Siva Subramani.
“The meeting was on overall review of security plan for Bijepur byelection. We would submit the security plan to the Election Observer after which it will be finalised,” he added.
He said this apart, the meeting discussed various angles of security including booth deployment, mobile patrolling and static picket post.
“The meeting also discussed about anti-Maoist operations during the byelection. Since the Maoists are active in some areas adjacent to Bijepur constituency, a special discussion was held with the central para military force officials about the location for deployment of BSF and CRPF forces, Nath said.
Stating that the police is ready for the ensuing byelection, he said a blueprint on security arrangements is ready. “We are confident that the byelection would be held in a free and fair manner. We will not give any opportunity for any untoward incident,” he pointed out.
