TMC MP Nusrat Jahan’s Shocking Revelation On Separation From Nikhil Jain, “Our Marriage Is Not Valid In India”

Bhubaneswar: Putting to rest rumours of her divorce from Nikhil Jain, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Nusrat Jahan issued a statement Wednesday saying her marriage to Jain was as per Turkish laws and is therefore not valid in India, to begin with. Confirming their “separation happened long back,” Jahan said questions of legal divorce did not arise since the interfaith marriage was not validated under the Special Marriage Act.

“Being on foreign land, as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, the ceremony is invalid… As per the court of law, it is not a Marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship,” the 31-year-old said in a statement broken down into seven parts. “I did not speak about it as I intended to keep my private life to myself. Thus, my actions must not be questioned based on “separation”, by the media or anybody I am not related to. The alleged marriage is not legal, valid and tenable.”

Jahan and businessman Jain’s marriage in 2019 in Turkey had sparked much conversation countrywide for its interfaith nature. In recent weeks, rumours of trouble brewing in their marriage began doing rounds amid speculation of a divorce.

In her statement regarding her marriage, Jahan refutes allegations of financial mismanagement on her part, without naming Jain. “The one who claims to be “rich” and “been used by me” has been taking money from my Account by accessing my Bank Accounts illegally and by illegitimate means at odd-hours of the night, even post-separation. I have already taken this up with the concerned Banking Authority and a Police Complaint shall be filed shortly,” she said.

“He has also been mishandling my funds from various accounts,” and adds that her family’s bank accounts have been held back without consent, as have her possessions including jewellery and clothes.

“Being “rich’ does not always give a man the right to act as a victim & belittle the woman alone, in this society.”

Jahan had earlier in the year reacted to rumours of a relationship with fellow actor Yash Dasgupta, with whom she took a trip to Rajasthan. “The affairs of my private life are not for the public,” she had said to Calcutta Times. There has even been speculation about Jahan being pregnant during her alleged relationship with Dasgupta.

In her statement, she adds, “I would never speak up about my personal life or anyone I am not related to. Thus, people who call themselves “normal people” must not entertain anything which is not related to them. I would request the media to refrain from questioning the wrong person, who has not been a part of my life for long now.”
