New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday alleged that BJP leaders Kiren Rijiju and Ravneet Singh Bittu, both Union ministers, “assaulted” its female MPs in the Lok Sabha amid the chaos that ensued after Home Minister Amit Shah tabled three contentious bills proposing the removal of the Prime Minister and chief ministers if they are jailed for 30 consecutive days.

Actor-turned-politician Satabdi Roy, a four-time MP from Birbhum, and Arambagh MP Mitali Bag levelled the allegations, saying they were “pushed and heckled” when they were protesting against the bills.

“While we were protesting against the bill and raising slogans, Union ministers Ravneet Singh Bittu and Kiren Rijiju suddenly rushed towards the well of the house and attacked me, they pushed me… also Satabdi Roy and others… This is highly condemnable,” Bag told ANI.

No footage from Parliament has surfaced yet to suggest that ruling party MPs were heckled the Trinamool MPs.

Bittu, Minister of State for Railways and Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, strongly denied the allegation.

“It is not my culture to push anyone. I want to ask the TMC, who is teaching them all this? Is it Mamata Banerjee?” he hit back.

“My family has laid down their life for the country, and I don’t belong to such a political ideology where women have to be disrespected,” he told CNN-News18. “I challenge the TMC to come and fight me outside Parliament, and I am sure they will not be able to win.”

Rijiju is yet to respond to the TMC claim.

As the Opposition fiercely protested the bills, terming those as “draconian”, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rijiju slammed the Opposition.

“Creating disruption only harms the opposition, especially the new MPs. The more chaos you create, the more the public will completely reject you. Once again, I urge you all to participate in the discussion,” Rijiju said in the House.

The three bills in question are – The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, The Jammu & Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill and The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill.

The bills propose a legal framework that will be applicable to ministers and chief ministers of states and Union Territories, as well as Union ministers and the Prime Minister at the Centre.

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 5 pm as Opposition leaders tore and threw copies of the bills at Shah.

The bills were sent to the Joint Committee of Parliament, where members of both Houses, including those from the Opposition, will give their suggestions.
