TMC Worker Beaten To Death In West Bengal’s 24 Praganas In Factional Fight, 13 Arrested

Kolkata: A total of 13 people have been arrested after a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was beaten to death at Paschimpara in Arjunpur of Baguiati in West Bengal’s North 24 Praganas in a clash between two factions of the party early on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjeev Das aka Potla who according to the police had several cases against him, Indian Express reported.

According to sources, the clash started after one group disconnected power supply in another’s area. The two factions threw bricks at each other. The Bauiti police arrived at the spot and pacified them but the clash started again after they left.

Das was hit by a brick on the head and fell to the ground. He was surrounded by a group of men who hit him with a stick and also kicked, slapped, and punched him, a police official told media.

Sanjeev succumbed to injuries at the R G Kar Hospital where he was admitted in a critical state.

Following his death family members of Sanjeev blocked the road and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed when other locals also joined the protest.

Later, police arrested 13 people in connection with the incident. Further probe is underway, Economic Times reported.
